  35. YAPC 2005 has booked blocks of rooms at three locations very near to the
  36. conference. These rooms will be held for a set period of time before
  37. being released to the general public. Since demand for hotel rooms in
  38. Toronto is very high in the summer,

  46. You may be thinking "Well if worst comes to worst I can always stay at
  47. a motel." However in reality it may be IMPOSSIBLE to find a room in
  48. Toronto (or even near Toronto) after a certain point. Our reserved
  49. blocks of rooms will start being released to the general public in late
  50. April, so book quickly.
  51. </p>
  52. <p>
  53. YAPC 2005 has booked blocks of rooms at the following three locations:
  54. <ul>
  55. <li> <a href="#chestnut">89 Chestnut Residence and Conference
  56. Facility</a> (location of the conference).</li>
  57. <li>Ryerson University: <a href="#illc">International Living Learning
  58. Centre (ILLC)</a> and <a href="#pitman">Pitman Hall Residence</a>
  59. </ul>
  60. <p>
  61. There are also other accommodation facilities near the 89 Chestnut
  62. Residence and Conference Facility that provide an alternative to the
  63. above three locations. (Rooms at these locations have not been
  64. specially reserved for YAPC 2005 attendees):

  76. <h3>89 Chestnut Hotel/Dorm/Conference Facility</h3>
  77. </a>
  78. <p>
  79. The conference facility is 89 Chestnut street [<a
  80. href="http://maps.google.com/maps?q=89+Chestnut+St.+Toronto,ON&hl=en">map</a>],
  81. which has both conference facilities and unique hotel/dorm hybrid rooms. (See their
  82. website -- <a href=http://89chestnut.com/>http://89chestnut.com/</a>)
  83. These are basically hotel rooms but without a TV. During the school
  84. year they are used as dorm rooms for University of Toronto students,
  85. and are used as hotel room throughout the summer months. They are
  86. only slightly more expensive than university dorm rooms and much less
  87. expensive than proper hotel rooms in downtown Toronto. This price/quality
  88. combination plus the extreme convenience of having your room in the same
  89. building as the conference leads us to believe that most of the
  90. attendees will opt for this option.
  91. <p>
  92. A block of rooms has been reserved for YAPC 2005 attendees for the
  93. arrival date of Sunday June 26th, 2005, departing the morning of June 29,
  94. 2005 (i.e. a 3 night stay: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday). (Some additional rooms
  95. are booked as part of the reservation for the evening of Wednesday 29
  96. June, departing the morning of Thursday 30 June. This is for people
  97. for whom travel plans or touristing interests would be helped by
  98. staying another night.) Features of the reserved block of rooms at
  99. 89 Chestnut include:
  100. <ul>
  101. <li> A special rate of CDN $79 per single room per night, or CDN $89 per
  102. double-room per night. There is in addition a 5% PST and 7% GST tax
  103. on accommodation. (So, including tax, a room is
  104. CDN $79 * 1.12 = CDN $88.48 and a double is CDN $89 * 1.12
  105. = CDN $99.68.)
  106. <li> 250 rooms have been reserved for June 26, June 27, and June 28.
  107. 60 rooms have been reserved for June 29.
  108. <li> Rooms will be Run of House (i.e. no specific floors or blocks of
  109. adjacent rooms in the building have been reserved for YAPC.)
  110. <li> Extend your stay in Toronto -- conference attendees may arrive or
  111. depart up to 3 days outside of the main group use dates at the
  112. same room rate. However, this must be booked in advance, at the
  113. original time of booking. 89 Chestnut is not obligated to provide
  114. you with a room if you decide during the course of the conference
  115. that you would like to stay later.
  116. <li> The above room rate includes a continental breakfast. You may
  117. upgrade to a full breakfast by paying CDN $6 plus tax to the cashier.
  118. <li> Remaining rooms in the block not booked by Monday June 6, 2005 will
  119. be released for general sale to the public. All requests after this
  120. date will be subject to availability.
  121. <li> Parking is based on availability. The rate for overnight guests is
  122. CDN $23 for a 24-hour period. This is a reasonable rate for parking
  123. in downtown Toronto. We don't recommend that people who come to
  124. Toronto by public transit (e.g. train, bus, airplane) rent a car
  125. while in Toronto, unless you want one for your own personal tourism
  126. purposes. Nothing about the conference requires one.
  127. <li> In-room high-speed internet access is available with a modem rental
  128. charge of CDN $5 per day.
  129. <li> Housekeeping is provided twice per 7-day stay, as opposed to daily
  130. housekeeping in most conventional hotel settings.
  131. <li> All rooms are non-smoking, and there are no smoking areas in the
  132. building.
  133. <li> You may cancel your reservation within 48 hours of your intended
  134. arrival without charge. Cancellations received less than 48 hours
  135. prior to arrival will be charged one night&#x2019;s accommodation rate.
  136. You may substitute the person(s) in your reservation up to the date
  137. of arrival.
  138. <li> Safe Booking Deadline: Monday, June 6, 2005.
  139. <li> Booking Code: perl0626

  141. <p>
  142. To make a reservation at 89 Chestnut, call +1 (416) 977-0707, extension

  144. booking code is "perl0626". The accommodation may be settled by
  145. MasterCard, VISA, or cash, no cheques accepted.

  149. <h3>Ryerson University Residences</h3>
  150. <p>
