165.
Internationalization

166. Mailman 2.1 is fully internationalized. This means you can add
167. translations of all the email and web templates so that your users can
168. interact with your mailing lists in their native language. Language
169. choices are handled as follows:
170.

171.
Each Mailman installation has a server default language.
172. Mailman ships with US English as the server default.
173.
The site administrator can install new language packs as
174. donated by volunteer translators. If you'd like to volunteer to
175. help with translations, or would like to download language packs
176. for installation at your site, please contact the
177. mailman-i18n@python.org
178. mailing list.
179.
Once a language pack has been installed, the site
180. administrator can make those additional languages available to
181. individual lists, and can change the server default language to
182. one of these languages.
183.
Individual list owners can choose which languages they'd like
184. their mailing list to support from the suite of site-enabled
185. language packs. The list owner can also select the list's default
186. language. Mailing lists can thus be monolingual (with English or
187. any other installed language as the default), or they can be
188. multilingual.
189.
Individual users can choose what their preferred language is,
190. from the set of list-enabled languages. Thus, if a list is
191. multilingual, the user can choose which language they'd prefer
192. when interacting with Mailman.
193.

194. It must be noted that Mailman never actually translates the messages
195. that flow through its mailing lists. It's up to the list members to
196. adhere to their community's language conventions.
197.
Mailman Internationalization Resources

198. The following resources are available for those wishing to use
199. internationalized versions of Mailman.
