  1. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  2. README file for the PCBIT-D Device Driver.
  3. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  4. The PCBIT is a Euro ISDN adapter manufactured in Portugal by Octal and
  5. developed in cooperation with Portugal Telecom and Inesc.
  6. The driver interfaces with the standard kernel isdn facilities
  7. originally developed by Fritz Elfert in the isdn4linux project.
  8. The common versions of the pcbit board require a firmware that is
  9. distributed (and copyrighted) by the manufacturer. To load this
  10. firmware you need "pcbitctl" available on the standard isdn4k-utils
  11. package or in the pcbit package available in:
  12. ftp://ftp.di.fc.ul.pt/pub/systems/Linux/isdn
  13. Known Limitations:
  14. - The board reset procedure is at the moment incorrect and will only
  15. allow you to load the firmware after a hard reset.
  16. - Only HDLC in B-channels is supported at the moment. There is no
  17. current support for X.25 in B or D channels nor LAPD in B
  18. channels. The main reason is that these two other protocol modes have,
  19. to my knowledge, very little use. If you want to see them implemented
  20. *do* send me a mail.
  21. - The driver often triggers errors in the board that I and the
  22. manufacturer believe to be caused by bugs in the firmware. The current
  23. version includes several procedures for error recovery that should
  24. allow normal operation. Plans for the future include cooperation with
  25. the manufacturer in order to solve this problem.
  26. Information/hints/help can be obtained in the linux isdn
  27. mailing list (isdn4linux@listserv.isdn4linux.de) or directly from me.
  28. regards,
  29. Pedro.
