  11. .Sh SYNOPSIS
  12. To compile this driver into the kernel,
  13. place the following lines in your
  14. kernel configuration file:
  15. .Bd -ragged -offset indent
  16. .Cd "device scbus"
  17. .Cd "device ida"
  18. .Ed
  19. .Pp
  20. Alternatively, to load the driver as a
  21. module at boot time, place the following line in
  22. .Xr loader.conf 5 :
  23. .Bd -literal -offset indent
  24. ida_load="YES"

  26. .Sh DESCRIPTION
  27. The Compaq Intelligent Drive Array (IDA) technology is used to
  28. distribute data across an array of hard drives.
  29. It unites these hard drives into one or more high-performance logical drives.
  30. The drive array is managed by an array controller.
  31. .Pp
  32. These controllers have the ability to provide fault tolerance for the connected
  33. drives and optionally provide write cache for the logical drives.
  34. It is also possible for an application to access the SCSI bus subsystem
  35. directly by using the pass-through interface.
  36. .Sh HARDWARE
  37. The following controllers are supported by the
  38. .Nm
  39. driver:

  65. .Sh IMPLEMENTATION NOTES
  66. Extreme caution should be exercised when using the pass-through interface.
  67. It is possible to interfere with normal system I/O and cause hangs if
  68. pass-through is used to an active device.
  69. Pass-through should only be used to a device that is otherwise quiescent.
