  2. *Video: Introducing TalkBack, An Open Source Screenreader
  3. We briefly introduced TalkBack in the previous video while enabling /Accessibility/ from the settings menu.
  4. Here, we show off some of this screenreader's features.
  5. TalkBack is designed to be a simple, non-obtrusive
  6. screenreader. What this means in practice is that you interact
  7. directly with your applications, and not with
  8. TalkBack. TalkBack's job is to remain in the background and
  9. provide the spoken feedback that you need.
  10. TalkBack works with all of Android's native user interface
  11. controls. This means you can configure all aspects of the Android
  12. user interface with TalkBack providing appropriate spoken
  13. feedback. What is more, you can use most native Android
  14. applications --- including those downloaded from the Android
  15. Market with TalkBack providing spoken feedback.
  16. Here are some examples of Android applications (both from Google as well as third-party applications available onmarket) that work with TalkBack:
  17. - Google Maps: Perform searches, and listen to directions.
  18. - YouTube: Search, browse categories and play.
  19. - Simple Weather: Listen to local weather forecasts.
  20. - Facebook: Moving around on the social Web.
  21. But in this video, we'll demonstrate the use of a very simple but
  22. useful Android application --- the Android Alarm clock.
  23. - Launch: I launch the alarm clock from Marvin's eyes-free application launcher.
  24. - TalkBack: TalkBack takes over and starts speaking.
  25. - Navigate: Navigating with the trackball speaks the alarm
  26. under focus.
  27. - Activate: Activating with the trackball produces appropriate feedback.
  28. - Navigate: Selected alarm displays its settings in a list-view which speaks as we navigate.
