1# -*- mode: org -*- 2 3 4*Video: Introducing TalkBack, An Open Source Screenreader 5 6 7 8We briefly introduced TalkBack in the previous video while enabling /Accessibility/ from the settings menu. 9Here, we show off some of this screenreader's features. 10 11TalkBack is designed to be a simple, non-obtrusive 12screenreader. What this means in practice is that you interact 13directly with your applications, and not with 14TalkBack. TalkBack's job is to remain in the background and 15provide the spoken feedback that you need. 16 17TalkBack works with all of Android's native user interface 18controls. This means you can configure all aspects of the Android 19user interface with TalkBack providing appropriate spoken 20feedback. What is more, you can use most native Android 21applications --- including those downloaded from the Android 22Market with TalkBack providing spoken feedback. 23 24Here are some examples of Android applications (both from Google as well as third-party applications available onmarket) that work with TalkBack: 25 26 27 - Google Maps: Perform searches, and listen to directions. 28 - YouTube: Search, browse categories and play. 29 - Simple Weather: Listen to local weather forecasts. 30 - Facebook: Moving around on the social Web. 31 32But in this video, we'll demonstrate the use of a very simple but 33useful Android application --- the Android Alarm clock. 34 35 - Launch: I launch the alarm clock from Marvin's eyes-free application launcher. 36 - TalkBack: TalkBack takes over and starts speaking. 37 - Navigate: Navigating with the trackball speaks the alarm 38 under focus. 39 - Activate: Activating with the trackball produces appropriate feedback. 40 - Navigate: Selected alarm displays its settings in a list-view which speaks as we navigate. 41 42 43 44 45#+TITLE: Video: Introducing TalkBack, An Open Source Screenreader 46#+AUTHOR: T.V Raman 47#+EMAIL: raman@google.com 48#+DATE: 2009-03-30 Mon 49#+LANGUAGE: en 50#+OPTIONS: H:3 num:t toc:nil \n:nil @:t ::t |:t ^:t -:t f:t *:t 51#TeX:t LaTeX:nil skip:nil d:nil tags:not-in-toc +LINK_UP: 52#http://eyes-free.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/documentation/videos/index.html 53#+LINK_HOME: http://eyes-free.googlecode.com/
