  103. <p>The dianion of benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid is an important
  104. linker to bridge metal atoms which show significant chemical and
  105. physical properties (Clausen <i>et al.</i>, 2005; Thirumurugan
  106. &amp; Rao, 2005; Li <i>et al.</i>, 1998, 1999). Since the anions
  107. contain four O atoms which are good hydrogen-bond acceptors,
  108. co-crystallization with organic cations would be expected to result
  109. in extensive hydrogen-bond networks. The title compound (Fig. 1)
  110. contains N-H···Cl and N-H···O
  111. hydrogen bonds between the cations and the anions, as well as
  112. O-H···O and O-H···Cl interactions
  113. formed by the lattice water molecules.</p>

  128. <p>ZnCl<sub>2</sub>.6H<sub>2</sub>O (0.49 g, 2.00 mmol) was added
  129. to a solution of 4,4'-diaminodicyclohexylmethane (0.21 g,1.00
  130. mmol) and benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (0.17 g, 1.00 mmol) in 30
  131. ml MeOH. The mixture was refluxed for 24 h to yield a colorless
  132. solution with some white solid. The solution was filtered and then
  133. diethyl ether was added to induce precipitation. The precipitate
  134. was filtered and washed by ether (3 × 10 ml), then dried under
  135. reduced pressure to give a white powder. Colourless crystals were
  136. obtained by slow diffusion of ether into a methanol solution of the
  137. white powder over several weeks.</p>

  144. <p>H atoms bound to C and N atoms were placed in idealized
  145. positions and constrained to ride on their parent atoms, with C-H =
  146. 0.93-0.98 Å and N-H = 0.89 Å, and with
  147. <i>U</i><sub>iso</sub>(H) = 1.2 or 1.5<i>U</i><sub>eq</sub>(C/N).
  148. The H atoms of the water molecules were located in difference
  149. Fourier maps, then constrained to ride on their parent O atom with
  150. <i>U</i><sub>iso</sub>(H) = 1.5<i>U</i><sub>eq</sub>(O). The C8-C11
  151. and C11-C12 bond distances were restrained to be identical with a
  152. standard uncertainty of 0.02 Å.</p>
