  477.             <div class="entry-content"><p>Republican U.S. House members from Kansas are voicing opposition to the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act.</p>

  478. <p>The proposed legislation is designed to combat illegally distributed copyrighted material, but opponents say the bill is too restrictive.</p>

  479. <p>In expressing her disapproval for SOPA, 2nd District Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins said the &#8220;misguided legislation&#8221; had the potential to stifle the Internet with censorship &#8220;and open the door for rampant legal abuse.&#8221;</p>

  480. <p>&#8220;Since its inception,&#8221; Jenkins said in a news release, &#8220;the Internet has educated millions, connected people around the world, toppled corrupt dictatorships and made millionaires out of garage entrepreneurs.&#8221;</p>
    481. 

  481. <p>SOPA would threaten the Internet&#8217;s status as &#8220;one of the greatest harbingers of free speech, free expression, free enterprise and the American Dream the world has ever known,&#8221; she said.</p>

  482. <p>Opponents of the legislation include Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Twitter, eBay and AOL. Wikipedia blocked access to its content Wednesday in protest of the bill, and Google blacked out its search engine logo.</p>

  483. <p>In a statement released Wednesday, 3rd District Congressman Kevin Yoder said SOPA&#8217;s &#8220;overly vague&#8221; and harsh restrictions on Internet service providers &#8220;will stifle innovation across the Web.&#8221;</p>

  484. <p>&#8220;While I have great concerns about the proliferation of online piracy and copyright infringement, SOPA is the wrong response,&#8221; Yoder said.</p>

  485. <p>Yoder said he would oppose the bill if brought to a vote in the House. It is being considered by the House Judiciary Committee.</p>

  486. <p>The White House has said the Obama administration won&#8217;t support &#8220;legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet.&#8221;</p>
