  1. About
  2. #####
  3. I'm Mark McGuire (aka TronPaul). I'm a software developer who's day job
  4. currently involves clojure, java, puppet, and other languages from time
  5. to time. In my spare time I work on my own projects, play videogames on
  6. my PC, read science fiction and fantasy, and listen to music.
  7. Personal Projects

  15. Favorite Games
  16. ==============
  17. Team Fortress 2
  18. My number one FPS. I play this competitively in UGC_'s Highlander
  19. league. I've played in the Steel, Silver, and Gold division as Scout
  20. and Sniper and I hope to play in Platinum some day.

  22. Counter Strike: Global Offensive
  23. The FPS I wish I was good at. I call this game the "thinking man's
  24. shooter". DM (deathmatch skill) will only get you so far. You need
  25. to know when to play aggressively and passively, grenade locations,
  26. rotations and many other things. The pace of matches is very tight
  27. and a close game is very easy to be caught up in.
  28. Favorite Books
  29. ==============
  30. Cryptonomicon [Neal Stephenson]
  31. Stephenson's writing style is my favorite to read. It was confusing
  32. at first, but I feel that he captures the thought patterns of his
  33. characters well. The three threads of the story come together in an
  34. almost crack-fic like manner.
  35. Pandora's Star, Judas Unchained [Peter F Hamilton]
  36. The number of characters is daunting, but the way the story comes
  37. together in the end is wonderful. The world Hamilton envisions in
  38. this series contains very interesting takes on a distant future
  39. including immortality, criminal sentences, and other things that
  40. flesh out his universe.
