  64. <!-- endheading2div --><p>The title compound, C<sub>11</sub>H<sub>11</sub>F<sub>6</sub>N.C<sub>4</sub>H<sub>6</sub>O<sub>5</sub>, is a key intermediate
  65. for the synthesis of casopitant, which is an NK1 receptor antagonist
  66. (Humphrey, 2003) for the
  67. treatment of chemotheraphy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) (Lohr,
  68. 2008).</p><p>The molecular structure of the title compound is shown in Fig.1. The F atoms of
  69. the trifluoromethyl group are disordered over two sites in a 0.50:0.50 ratio.
  70. N&#8212;H&#183;&#183;&#183;O hydrogen bonding interactions occur between (<i>S</i>)-1-(3,
  71. 5-bis(trifluoromethyl)-phenyl)ethylamine <i>N</i>-monomethyl and
  72. (<i>R</i>)-2-hydroxybutanedioic acid (Table 1).</p>

  89. <i>N</i>-monomethyl (2.71 g, 10 mmol) in EtOAc (25 ml),
  90. (<i>R</i>)-2-hydroxybutanedioic acid (1.34,10 mmol) was added portionwise. The
  91. suspension was stirred for 2h at 298 K, then for 3 h at 273 K. The suspension
  92. was filtered and the cake was washed with EtOAc (20 ml). The solid was dried
  93. under vacucum obtaining the crude title compound (1.48 g). Single crystal of
  94. the title compound suitable for X-ray diffraction was obtained by slow
  95. evaporation of the EtOAc solution of the title compound.</p>
