Relevant Search: With Applications for Solr and Elasticsearch

For more in depth reading about search, ranking and generally everything you could ever want to know about how lucene, elasticsearch or solr work under the hood I highly suggest this book. Easily one of the most interesting technical books I have read in a long time. If you are tasked with solving search relevance problems even if not in Solr or Elasticsearch it should be your first reference. Amazon Affiliate Link

159
Starting with version 2.7.0, the import engine has been re–written and
160these problems should not occur. If possible, upgrade your phpMyAdmin
161to the latest version to take advantage of the new import features.

162
The first things to check (or ask your host provider to check) are the
163values of upload_max_filesize, memory_limit and

165three settings limit the maximum size of data that can be submitted

167memory_limit need to be larger than upload_max_filesize.
168There exist several workarounds if your upload is too big or your
169hosting provider is unwilling to change the settings:

170

171

Look at the $cfg['UploadDir'] feature. This allows one to upload a file to the server
172via scp, ftp, or your favorite file transfer method. PhpMyAdmin is
173then able to import the files from the temporary directory. More
174information is available in the Configuration of this document.

175

191
Since phpMyAdmin 3.0.x, only MySQL 5.0.1 and newer are supported. For
192older MySQL versions, you need to use the latest 2.x branch.

197to do so. When compiling PHP, we strongly recommend that you manually
198link the MySQL extension of your choice to a MySQL client library of
199at least the same minor version since the one that is bundled with
200some PHP distributions is rather old and might cause problems see

208
You tried to access MySQL with an old MySQL client library. The
209version of your MySQL client library can be checked in your phpinfo()
210output. In general, it should have at least the same minor version as
211your server - as mentioned in 1.17 Which MySQL versions does phpMyAdmin support?. This problem is
212generally caused by using MySQL version 4.1 or newer. MySQL changed
213the authentication hash and your PHP is trying to use the old method.
214The proper solution is to use the mysqli extension with the proper client library to match
215your MySQL installation. More
216information (and several workarounds) are located in the MySQL

229
To connect to a MySQL server, PHP needs a set of MySQL functions
230called “MySQL extension”. This extension may be part of the PHP
231distribution (compiled-in), otherwise it needs to be loaded
232dynamically. Its name is probably mysqli.so or php_mysqli.dll.
233phpMyAdmin tried to load the extension but failed. Usually, the
234problem is solved by installing a software package called “PHP-MySQL”
235or something similar.

236
There are currently two interfaces PHP provides as MySQL extensions - mysql

531
For RedHat users, Harald Legner suggests this on the mailing list:

532
On my RedHat-Box the socket of MySQL is /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock.
533In your php.ini you will find a line

534

mysql.default_socket = /tmp/mysql.sock

539

540

541
Then restart apache and it will work.

542
Here is a fix suggested by Brad Ummer:

543

544
First, you need to determine what socket is being used by MySQL. To do
545this, telnet to your server and go to the MySQL bin directory. In this
546directory there should be a file named mysqladmin. Type
547./mysqladmin variables, and this should give you a bunch of info
548about your MySQL server, including the socket (/tmp/mysql.sock, for
549example).

550
Then, you need to tell PHP to use this socket. To do this in
551phpMyAdmin, you need to complete the socket information in the
552config.inc.php. For example:
553$cfg['Servers'][$i]['socket'] Please also make sure that
554the permissions of this file allow to be readable by your webserver (i.e.
555‘0755’).

556

557
Have also a look at the corresponding section of the MySQL
558documentation.

575
When you are using a port on your localhost, which you redirect via

579tries to use the socket connection for speeding up things. And that

1218
This is a bad idea, because in MySQL the syntax “database.table” is

1253
Any query you have executed can be stored as a bookmark on the page
1254where the results are displayed. You will find a button labeled
1255‘Bookmark this query’ just at the end of the page. As soon as you have
1256stored a bookmark, it is related to the database you run the query on.
1257You can now access a bookmark dropdown on each page, the query box
1258appears on for that database.

1259
You can also have, inside the query, a placeholder for a variable.
1260This is done by inserting into the query a SQL comment between /* and
1261*/. Inside the comment, the special string [VARIABLE] is used.
1262Be aware that the whole query minus the SQL comment must be
1263valid by itself, otherwise you won’t be able to store it as a bookmark.

1264
When you execute the bookmark, everything typed into the value
1265input box on the query box page will replace the string /*[VARIABLE]*/ in
1266your stored query.

1267
Also remember, that everything else inside the /*[VARIABLE]*/ string for
1268your query will remain the way it is, but will be stripped of the /**/
1269chars. So you can use:

1270

/*, [VARIABLE] AS myname */

1277
in your query, where VARIABLE is the string you entered in the input box. If an
1278empty string is provided, no replacements are made.

1279
A more complex example. Say you have stored
1280this query:

1282

1283

1284
Say, you now enter “phpMyAdmin” as the variable for the stored query, the full
1285query will be:

1286

SELECT Name, Address FROM addresses WHERE 1 AND Name LIKE '%phpMyAdmin%'
1287

1288

1289
You can use multiple occurrences of /*[VARIABLE]*/ in a single query
1290(that is, multiple occurrences of the same variable).

1291
NOTE THE ABSENCE OF SPACES inside the /**/ construct. Any spaces
1292inserted there will be later also inserted as spaces in your query and may lead
1293to unexpected results especially when using the variable expansion inside of a
1294“LIKE ‘’” expression.

1295
Your initial query which is going to be stored as a bookmark has to yield at
